on the 8th day...
Yesterday, we visited IDB and got an opportunity to meet some Japanese people who work there and ask a couple of questions. At first, I couldn’t understand their story a bit even the purpose of their company, but then I felt better since I gradually caught it. After that, we went to the museum of American art next. I was really disappointed because I didn’t have much time to go around, so naturally, we couldn’t see all the pieces there. But ones I could manage to see were all amazing, impressive, have power to attract people. I might like arts. I want to stay longer in Washington and try to look every picture or painting or stuff in museums. But I’m becoming homesick on the other hand. I really missed Japan and actually, couldn’t help crying at my hotel yesterday…..

Hello, Yayoi!
It was really nice talking to you through the internet. ^^ I hope that we'll be able to meet face to face after you guys go back to Japan!
Well, I'm pleased to hear that you enjoye visiting IDB because it'll help you learn how the international organizations work in order to make the world a better place. I can understand how you felt about shopping around at the museum because whenever I go to a museum, I always end up hoping that I could stay longer!
Finally, you're missing Japan, aren't you? Is there any way that you can keep in touch with your mom or friends in Japan? I guess that helps you go through it. ^^
Yayoi, I'm sorry that you're feeling homesick!! We mentors can't do much for you in that aspect, but if there is anything we CAN do, don't hesitate to ask!!
Hi Yayoi. I know it is difficult sometimes to be away from home. When I studied abroad in Germany I got homesick at times, but I kept reminding myself of how great an experience it was to be in another country and that eventually I would be home and wishing I were back in Germany!
Hi Yayoi,
You seem to be having lots of opportunities to enjoy different experiences ... from your post you seem to realize you like art and would love to visit the Gallery again ... maybe in your next trip to the States when you would probably be more used to being away from home. It is a natural feeling, to miss home, family and friends but I am sure you will miss these two weeks in the States as well.
Have a great time this coming week, your last.
Cheers,
Berta
Hello, Yayoi.
I enjoyed your posts for August 8th and August 10th.
I was glad to hear that you overcame your fear of chicken. My sister had a similar experience many, many years ago and she hasn't eaten chicken since then! (Oddly enough, she eats turkey, however.)
Question: Is ebichiri a kind of shrimp dish? I saw these pictures of ebichiri on Google Images. I think they look like what we call "sweet and sour shrimp" (a common dish in Chinese restaurants).
Your comments about the IDB were also interesting. I must confess that I don't know much about what the IDB does, either!
Finally, I can certainly understand your touch of homesickness. I've felt that way many times, so you have my sympathy. I think Sophia gives good advice about handling homesickness: to keep reminding yourself what a great experience it is to be in another country and not to lose sight of the fact that you will soon be back home.
Enjoy your remaining time in the U.S.!
